Pump rooms

At my last two jobs, there were no pump rooms. My previous job, my manager had to close her office with a sign (there wasn’t even a lock) and pump in there. My current job, they had to scramble to find a spot for the new mom to pump, and there were often scheduling conflicts. She could only hold out so long before it was uncomfortable for her!

I thought you might like this video – It makes me think women should take more pride and make a bigger deal of what we can do. It’s a video called “If Men Breastfed…” and it’s very funny.

Great point! This will most definitely be included in the guide. Thanks, Brittany!

My previous employer had comfortable rocking chairs and an area that you could bring your computer into so you can continue to work. I think still making it accessible to moms during the workday so they can be productive is a big plus! If it’s too hard to work (ie. nowhere to sit and have a table for your computer) it just makes it harder on the mom to get her work done AND raise a family, let alone the lack of productivity the employer faces.

Love the “Got Milk”! We’re pulling together a guide for pump rooms — suggestions of best practices for employers. Anything you all think we should include (or warn against)? TIA

I worked in an agency for many years and there was always a pump room. Usually a supply closet or something not so cozy. On top of that it had nicknames like the lactation station to name one.

I worked in creative agency too. They had “Got Milk” ads on all the walls of the pump room.
